There is a job for us to do.
There is a call for the church to answer.
There is a response we need towards the Spirit of God.
God is calling on his people to BE the people of God they are supposed to be in this hour.
The best time for the church has ALWAYS been during moments of trial and difficulty, because these are the very moments when God proves himself true, faithful, powerful, and able.
So if you are in a moment of trial, do not be discouraged!
God is in the middle of the trial WITH YOU and he will help you…but you have to do one thing…PICK UP THE MANTLE.
It’s time for the church to PICK UP THE MANTLE.
We cannot simply recognize that there is a mantle, but we have to pick it up.
The call has been made.
The path is clear.
The answer is available.
But the church has to pick it up.
This idea of the “mantle,” continues to be pressed upon my heart and mind.
You don’t want to miss your mantle!
The mantle is the purpose of God, the things of God, the anointing of the Spirit of God, and all of this is readily available to those whom God is calling at the moment.
You know the story of Elijah and Elisha…You’ve read this story, and heard this story.
1 Kings 19:13-19 KJV
And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?
At this moment, the Lord is about to change the trajectory in the land by changing who resides in the office of prophet.
And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
Elijah is very discouraged by what he sees happening around him.
We must take this as a lesson to us about where to FOCUS in times of spiritual apathy and complacency.
Our eyes should not focus on the world, or the culture, or the problems or the turmoil, but we clearly and faithfully must behold Jesus.
Keep your eyes on the Lord.
Because of this shift in Elijah, there is a transfer of calling and anointing about to take place.
Don’t misplace your calling and anointing by placing your eyes on the attention grabbing tactics of the enemy.
If you miss what God wants to do in your life…in you and through you…you have missed the purpose for your existence.
And the Lord said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria: And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room. And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.
The Lord reminds Elijah of a great truth that we must remember in tumultuous times…
Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.
I use this verse to say that…
There is STILL a church in the land!
There is still a group of people who love Jesus fully and completely.
God is raising up his people EVEN NOW to combat the darkness that pervades us.
There is a remnant of people who are unafraid of the enemy and unashamed of the name of Jesus.
This church will proclaim, pray, and powerfully uphold the truths of the Bible.
As long as there is a CHURCH in the land…there is hope in the land.
The church just needs to PICK UP THE MANTLE that has already been cast upon her shoulders.
Don’t give in to the things of the world or the press of the expedient, but lift up the name of Jesus.
Lift his name personally.
Lift his name corporately.
Lift his name in unity.
So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.
The mantle was the symbol of God’s anointing.
The mantle was the symbol of God’s Spirit.
The mantle was the prophetic Word of God.
Here me now…
Our mantle is the anointing!
Our mantle is the Spirit of God!
Our mantle is the WORD of God!
The church that belongs to Jesus must stop being ashamed of the mantle and pick it up and use it!
Stop being ashamed of what people will think of you when the anointing and Spirit of God come upon you…
- In your home.
- In your business.
- In your church.
- At your school.
- With your family.
- In your community.
Don’t be ashamed to stand for the Word of God!
We have to pick up the truth.
We have to pick up the Word.
We have to pick up the promise…and USE IT.
The world is crying out for someone who will USE the mantle.
The nation is crying out for a person, a man or woman of God who will USE THE MANTLE.
We’ve seen enough people parade around with supposed mantles of God, what we need now are prayer warriors, men and women of God, unafraid, who push the word instead of the plow…who sow the seed of the word instead of sowing discord.
Jeremiah 4:3 NKJV
For thus says the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem: “Break up your fallow ground, And do not sow among thorns.
Fallow ground is land that is USUALLY cultivated, but allowed to be IDLE during the growing season.
It’s time to break up the ground and plant the seed of the Word of God!
Hosea 10:12 NKJV
Sow for yourselves righteousness; Reap in mercy; Break up your fallow ground, For it is time to seek the LORD, Till He comes and rains righteousness on you.
The mantle is there so that you have the power to push the Word through the ground and break it up.
God will rain righteousness upon those who are unafraid to USE the mantle of God.
The mantle is for YOU…
The mantle is for NOW…
We must begin to ask the question that Elisha asked…
Here was Elisha’s context…
He had been with Elijah.
He had seen the miracles of the past.
He had experienced second hand, the power of God.
But the problem with being an “Elisha,” is that ONE DAY your Elijah will be GONE.
Can I say that…
The people of God have had many “Elijah’s.”
- We’ve had grandparents to watch.
- We’ve had men and women of God, who have lived in times gone by.
- We’ve had parents, and friends, and authorities in our life who have displayed the power of God.
And all the while WE HAD THE PRIVILEGE TO WATCH.
But one day, your Elijah will be gone!
In that moment, when the people, the plans, and the past that you once knew are all behind you, and you need God to move like fire in your PRESENT…It’s at THAT MOMENT you have to pick up the mantle and USE IT.
Our nation cannot depend on revivals from the past.
We cannot live off the results of yesterday’s fire.
We must pick up the mantle of God’s Spirit TODAY and use his word to slay the giant in front of us!
Here’s what scripture declares of that moment when it happened to Elisha…
2 Kings 2:12-14 NKJV
And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, “My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!” So he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes and tore them into two pieces. He also took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan. Then he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck the water, and said, “Where is the LORD God of Elijah?” And when he also had struck the water, it was divided this way and that; and Elisha crossed over.
Elisha, with a broken heart and expectant spirit, with just an edge of disgruntled anger…slaps the water with the mantle and asks, “where is the God of Elijah?”
Here’s what’s happening in this context…
- He picks up the mantle. – submits to what the Lord wants to do in his life.
- He USES the mantle. – God shows up! Miracles happen. Power is unleashed.
- He asks the question, “where IS the Lord God of Elijah?”. – signifying his desire for the things of God to move again.
- He walks in a plane that was previously impossible to walk in…it happened ALL BECAUSE he used the mantle.
Can I propose something to you?
We are mostly content where we are.
That’s why we don’t use the mantle.
But this contentedness with the world, and the culture, will be the undoing of the people of God if we don’t break up our fallow ground and begin to seek him.
It will be our undoing if we don’t begin to have a hunger and thirst to see the Lord God of our “Elijah’s.”
The Lord is looking for a man or woman of God, filled and infused with his Spirit that will not just talk about the glory of days gone by…who will not just hold the mantle like a relic of the past…but will USE the mantle on what is in front of them in order to walk in a plane that was previously impossible.
America needs a miracle.
The church needs an awakening.
The sinner needs a savior.
We have the answer to all of these problems.
It has been placed on our shoulders, but it has to move from our shoulders to our hands.
It has to move from a holding position to an action position.
We have to slap the obstruction with the mantle and ask the question.
We must boldly expect the Lord to do what he has done before because HE HAS NOT CHANGED!
We must ready ourselves to move and walk in new victory.
We know that we overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony…can I tell you that your mantle is what continues to produce your testimony?!
God uses what’s in your hand to move the problem, destroy the deception, release the captives, and clear the way.
The mantle is not only the CALL of God but it is also the Anointing of the Spirit of God!
Here’s what happens when the Spirit of God comes upon your life…
Luke 4:14-18 NKJV
 Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region.  And He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all.  So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.  And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:  “The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
You may say, “that was talking about Jesus…”
“Sure, Jesus can do all those things, but I’m not Jesus!”
You’ve heard what scripture says about Jesus, but…
Here’s what Jesus said about you…
John 14:12-14 NKJV
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.
That means if we ask for revival it will come.
If we pray to the Lord of Heaven he will answer.
If we seek the face of God to awaken the church, heal the nation, restore the remnant, release the captives, save the lost, fix the broken, and unleash his Spirit…IT WILL HAPPEN.
The answer is found in PICKING UP and USING THE MANTLE that Jesus left with us!
Today is NOT a day to cower to the world, the flesh, your problems, the devil or anything else.
This is the day for the church to arise and USE the WORD to destroy the enemy that faces us.
We must stand, ready for battle, ready to protect and defend the things of God, the people of God, our family, and ready to defend those ideals and values that belong to the Spirit of God.
We must implore the church to USE the MANTLE, and not sit idly by ANY LONGER!
God will rain down righteousness and his Spirit when WE use what he has GIVEN US and when we OPERATE in the Spirit of God that HE PLACED ON US.
THIS IS THE DAY FOR AWAKENING!
