How Do You Respond To Pressure?
That is the ultimate question in spiritual battle.
Why? Because not only your flesh, and culture, but your enemy the devil, is trying to lure you out from under COVER.
Jesus is our cover.
His presence, Spirit, and power are the covering over our life.
Psalm 91:1-4 NKJV
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
But not only are we cover up these attributes of The Lord, we are are also covered by his AUTHORITY.
By the way it’s an authority that has been committed to US!
As a believer, YOU have authority.
You have positional authority, and you have conferred authority.
Positional authority comes from the fact that you have a new nature when you become a believer, and you are no longer who you used to be, you have come into the position of being a CHILD OF GOD.
The Lord God is your Father.
Let’s back this though up with scripture…
Romans 8:14-17 NKJV
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs-heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
Scripture also says…
1 John 3:1-2 NKJV
Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
There is positional authority in your life because of the relationship between you and God.
You can call on the Lord for help, salvation, resources, power, wisdom, and any number of things BECAUSE you have authority with God for the fact that he is your Heavenly Father.
Most people understand this part of the deal.
We have heard it before, and we know it, whether we utilize the positional authority that we have remains to be seen.
In the leadership standards of the world, positional authority is really looked down upon, but in the heavenly realms, THIS POSITIONAL AUTHORITY is the BASIS and FOUNDATION for nearly EVERYTHING in your life!
But not only do you have positional authority, you also have CONFERRED AUTHORITY.
Jesus himself has taken of HIS AUTHORITY and HAS GIVEN IT or CONFERRED IT UPON YOU.
Here’s the scriptural basis for this…
Luke 10:19 NKJV
Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
This means that there is a conferred authority from heaven, just waiting to be used and drawn upon.
You don’t call on the Lord for THIS PARTICULAR authority, because he has already COMMITTED it to YOU.
SO we must USE THIS AUTHORITY.
There are four main avenues by which we use the conferred authority of Jesus to strip down and destroy strongholds in our life and in the lives of those closest to us, and even in the earth.
The avenues are…
- The name of Jesus.
- The declaration of his word in faith.
- The prayer of petition to God.
- Praying in the Spirit.
Each of these elements is powerful on their own, but used in combination and offered in faith, they are weapons of mass destruction against the forces of the enemy that seek to pressure you, your family, your church, your state, city, and even your nation.
You have authority as a believer to USE the name of Jesus. When you speak and declare the truth of God’s Word, in conjunction with the name of Jesus, it’s like sending out a royal decree that MUST BE FOLLOWED.
Jesus told us this already, and has already given us the truth about how much power his name contains.
Philippians 2:9-11 NKJV
Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
This passage undergirds our strong belief in the utter POWER OF JESUS’ NAME, but Jesus himself goes further by giving US the authority to USE IT.
Mark 16:17-18 NKJV
And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
John 14:13-14,26 NKJV
And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
John 16:24,26-27 NKJV
Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you; for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came forth from God.
If satan can pressure you into moving from cover, and keep you from USING YOUR AUTHORITY, especially at the most inopportune time, it will leave you exposed and weak.
He wants a shot at your soul, your life, your call, your purpose and destiny.
Certainly, there are times when Christians are just spiritually tired.
- When they are coming off of an emotionally charged time.
- When they have been in spiritual battle.
- When multiple points of attack have compromised their soul.
It’s at critical junctures like this when the enemy doubles down to pressure you into moving from your cover, and to keep you from USING your conferred authority.
Whatever that means for you, in your specific context, the clearest path to safety is staying HIDDEN IN JESUS.
Stay anchored to your positional authority.
- You are a child of God.
- You are loved by the Lord.
- You are saved by his grace.
- You are covered by Jesus’ Blood.
- You have the mind of Christ.
These are foundational, positional truths.
Satan will tell you there is no reason to move forward because you are a failure, you don’t matter, you’re not strong enough, and you can’t win…but these thoughts don’t hold up to the positional authority you have as a child of God.
The fact is, I’m anchored in Jesus!
YOU are anchored in Jesus!
There is a hiding place where the devil can’t touch you. He may yell at you, and talk discouragement to you, but HE CAN’T TOUCH YOU!
Jesus IS your cover.
He protects your spirit from vile enemy plans.
He guards and defends your soul.
He replenishes and builds you back up after an attack or prolonged season of battle.
In the midst of battle, we use conferred authority to go on the offensive against the powers of this age, the vile plans of the enemy, and the spirits that stand against God’s will, but in a rest period, we must anchor our soul in the harbor of his love and never forget that we are positionally tied to the Lord of heaven and earth.
The most important time to guard is during the transition period from battle to rest, when the enemy only has a small moment and narrow gap to shoot at you with his arrows.
In this moment, don’t let the pressure of the enemy, cause you to pull from your cover and be exposed to a final assault.
Stay hidden in Jesus.
Stay strong in prayer.
Stay in God’s word.
Keep declaring God’s word.
Petition God for what you need.
Use the powerful name of Jesus.
Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion.
Recognize both spheres of authority that you have through Jesus.
These simple disciplines keep you hidden from enemy fire, so that the Lord has a chance to strengthen your heart.
How will YOU respond to the pressure?
