There is a swift movement away from anything and everything that we’ve always known to be true, and if you contradict the ideals of culture, it will cast you away as someone who is heretical, insignificant, and unlearned.

It’s as if there is no way that all the foundational beliefs and principles we’ve held close and know to be true can continue to lead us forward.

But here’s the thing…

The deeply held truths from the WORD OF GOD don’t simply cease to be true.

Here’s why…

Eternal Truth is unchangeable.

Eternal Truth is unchangeable. Share

This kind of truth, the kind of truth in the Word of God, exists regardless of the time, the culture, the disbelief of the masses, or anything else that would seek to undermine the precious truths from God’s Word that we hold dear.

The problem is not that the world and the culture don’t believe the truths of the Bible, because THEY never have; but the problem is that Christians…believers…those who once were close to Jesus are now trading the truth for the ideas, beliefs, and stance of the world.

We MUST BE CAREFUL to guard ourselves from believing a lie.

We must watch over our soul and protect it from the garbage, the trash, and the untruths of the world.

Satan seeks to flood our spirit with ideas that will take us captive and lead us away from the power of our relationship with Jesus.

We are called ignorant if we don’t agree with all the trash that is presented to us as truth.

Scripture warns of these very things.

2 Timothy 4:1-4 NKJV

[1] I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: [2] Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.

Believers are called to preach the Word of God.

  • To listen to the Word of God.
  • To live in the Word of God.
  • Take a stand for the truths of God’s Word.
  • We are to convince, rebuke, and exhort each other and the culture in which we live.

All the more as the day of Christ’s return approaches.

Why does Paul say this?

His next sentence tells us why.

And it’s the point of the message.

Paul says…

[3] For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; [4] and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

When Paul says, “they,” he is talking about the CHURCH!

That there will be a time when the CHURCH will not endure sound doctrine and teaching.

There will be a time when the CHURCH will grow in confusion, and the desire for something OTHER THAN the WORD OF GOD.

As much as we wish things in the world would change, this passage is not directed at the world, it is pointed at the church.

WE HAVE TO BE CAREFUL THAT WE DON’T TRADE THE TRUTH FOR A LIE.

WE HAVE TO BE CAREFUL THAT WE DON’T TRADE THE TRUTH FOR A LIE. Share
  • Don’t trade the truth.
  • Don’t be tricked into trading the truth…as Esau was, who, in the Old Testament, sold his birthright for a bowl of soup.
  • Don’t be pressured into trading the truth.
  • Don’t be manipulated into trading the truth.
  • But GUARD YOURSELVES and the TRUTH that the Holy Spirit has placed within you and don’t at ANY TIME LET IT SLIP.

If you catch yourself beginning to believe differently than you have always believed…guard yourself.

If you sense the desire to do things differently than you have always done…guard yourself.

If you feel a pull away from the church gathering, and away from the people who have spoken into your life, and away from those you have looked to for help and guidance in your life…friends, family, church family…guard yourself.

What satan desires to do is to separate people from those who love them, and encourage them, and from those who speak truth into their life…for the intent of killing their spirit and destroying their walk with Jesus.

WE HAVE TO BE CAREFUL THAT WE DON’T TRADE THE TRUTH FOR A LIE.

Paul the apostle says THIS in the book of Acts…

First of all…

Acts 20:20 NKJV

[20] how I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house,

Then he says THIS…And understand that Paul is speaking to the Elders of the church of Ephesus, giving them instruction on how to teach and lead their churches…

Acts 20:27-31 NKJV

[27] For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God.

[28] Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.

[29] For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock.

[30] Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves.

[31] Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears.

I would say that since apostle Paul has been gone for over 2,000 years now, that we ARE living in the days after his departure!

He tells us what to watch for!

There is an attack on the word, “doctrine.”

People don’t believe ANYONE should have the right to “speak into” their lives, while at the same time, they allow culture, and a multitude of voices to input and speak into them…shaping their thoughts, opinions, and values.

The CHURCH MUST GUARD ITSELF.

The PEOPLE OF GOD MUST HOLD THEIR GROUND IN THE TRUTH.

WE HAVE TO BE CAREFUL THAT WE DON’T TRADE THE TRUTH FOR A LIE.

Here’s the problem…

Doctrine is no longer considered valuable, but doctrine is more than what we are taught, it is what we believe.

What you believe is important!

Let me say that again…

WHAT YOU BELIEVE IS IMPORTANT…IT IS VITAL…IT IS THE HEIGHT OF VALUE IN YOUR LIFE.

WHAT YOU BELIEVE IS IMPORTANT...IT IS VITAL...IT IS THE HEIGHT OF VALUE IN YOUR LIFE. Share

There is an unlimited supply of teachers that will tell you what you WANT to hear, but teaching things we want to hear, things that are only according to our desire, will never equate to the truth that sets us free.

We are warned about the time when the CHURCH will not endure sound and wholesome teaching.

The time for this warning is NOW!

WE HAVE TO BE CAREFUL THAT WE DON’T TRADE THE TRUTH FOR A LIE.

We cannot afford to accept the fables of society.

The church is a group of people CALLED OUT from society. We present truths that are greater than the temporal ideas of culture.

The church, the real church, the people who still hold onto the truths of the Bible, have an eternal truth that provides freedom to anyone who will receive it.

That’s why Paul says to Timothy…

2 Timothy 4:5 NKJV

[5] But you be WATCHFUL in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

He also says this…

2 Timothy 1:13-14 NKJV

[13] Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. [14] That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.

In this time of spiritual turmoil and unrest, the men and women of God are called to “hold fast” the sound words we have been taught.

Through the power of the Holy Spirit we can keep ahold of the truth even when we are surrounded by fables and lies.

The time to rise up is NOW.

The time to pray for the church is NOW.

The time to hold onto truth is NOW.

The time to guard your heart and mind is NOW.

We should not intercede for the lost only, but also for the church, so that God’s people can remain strong, untarnished, resilient in the face of lies and attacks.

Let me give you several areas in which to guard yourself from being deceived and to keep you from turning away from the truth…

1. Be careful about the voices you listen to.

You have a choice in who and what you allow to input into your life. Be careful about subtle changes in teaching.

Be careful when you see those teachers that you have loved, beginning to subtlety change their message.

Be careful of people who push you and try to move you in one direction or another.

Carefully consider the origin of the voices you listen to.

Who influences them NOW?

Who speaks into THEIR LIFE NOW?

Who do they SOUND LIKE?

2. Be careful who you follow.

Isn’t it ironic that the world literally adopts the terminology of the Bible in how they describe the preferred methods of our day?

John 10:27 NKJV

[27] My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

We choose to “follow” people all the time.

When we choose to follow someone, we give them a certain degree of authority in and over our life.

As people of God, we don’t want to give anyone authority to speak into or over us that are ungodly, unsaved, or who might be going in the wrong direction from the truth of God’s Word.

Be careful on your social media.

Be careful who you watch.

Be careful who you follow.

3. Exclude anything from your life that keeps you from CLEARLY hearing the voice of the Lord.

This should go without saying, but if something or someone hinders you from personally hearing from God, you should ban that thing or person from speaking into you.

Also, remember that things like prophetic words are GOOD, and God uses them, but also remember that IF YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD, God himself will speak to YOU.

You don’t have to go here and there to get a word, because THE WORD lives inside of YOU!

1 John 2:26-27 NKJV

[26] These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. [27] But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

John is saying that the Holy Spirit OF TRUTH already lives inside of us, and he WILL TEACH US or TELL US what we need to know to keep our life going in the right direction.

It’s not that we know everything, but that the Spirit of God lives in us to guide us.

Listen to prophecies, listen to “words,” but judge the spirits and reject anything that isn’t grounded in scripture…remember, any prophecy given DOES NOT have the same authority as scripture, no matter WHO SAYS IT.

4. Stay away from foolish arguments.

2 Timothy 2:23-26 NKJV

[23] But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. [24] And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, [25] in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, [26] and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

There is a multitude of arguments that the devil would love to entangle the church in right now…but we must guard against it and do what this word says.

5. Don’t operate your life through fear by living in fear that you will be tricked or deceived.

God has the power to lead your life in the right direction, and he can help you hold onto the right voices, when your number one focus in life is FOLLOWING JESUS, and listening for the HOLY SPIRIT.

The final area in which to guard yourself is this…

6. STAY GROUNDED AND ANCHORED TO THE WORD OF GOD!

WE HAVE TO BE CAREFUL THAT WE DON’T TRADE THE TRUTH FOR A LIE.

By staying in scripture FOR OURSELVES, we will be putting blocks of truth into our life that have the ability to conquer the lies presented in front of us.

Every time you read the Bible and PRAY as you read it, you give the Holy Spirit tools to work with to build your life and keep you grounded in the truth, no matter what the world and the culture, or even false teachers in the church throw our way.

Don’t be fooled…Paul says there is a time when the CHURCH will no longer endure SOUND DOCTRINE…or SOUND TEACHING.

They will run to gather teachers that tell them WHAT THEY WANT TO HEAR.

Don’t let your spirit be undermined, but hold tight to what you know.

As the Apostle Peter was about to die, he penned these words…

2 Peter 1:15-16 NKJV

[15] Moreover I will be careful to ensure that you always have a reminder of these things after my decease. [16] For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty.

Let me finish by saying one more time that…

WE HAVE TO BE CAREFUL THAT WE DON’T TRADE THE TRUTH FOR A LIE.

Hebrews 2:1 NKJV

[1] Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.

Remnant Prayer Warriors…it’s time to rise!

My heart is for the church that Jesus is building and returning for...the church that the gates of hell will not prevail against.
More than anything, the desire of my heart is to see the greatest revival of the Holy Spirit, salvations, spiritual awakening, and for the miraculous to come back to the church, preparing believers for the return of Jesus.
